CAMPAIGN UPDATE: In January 2023, the LA County Board of Supervisors voted to phase out oil drilling in most of unincorporated LA County! Following the lead of frontline residents that have been working for decades to rid LA City of oil drilling, the LA County Coalition against Oil Drilling and STAND LA organized thousands of LA County residents to make this victory possible. Because of them, over 400 oil wells in unincorporated LA County are now on a path for closure.
The Baldwin Hills, Inglewood Oil Field
The Inglewood Oil Field (IOF) is the largest continuous urban oil field in the Country with 659 active wells onsite, with over a million residents in proximity to these toxic operations. Though the IOF wasn’t included in the recent ordinance, Title 22, the Board of Supervisors has instructed the County to place the IOF on a similar path for phase out by updating community zoning standards that currently allow for oil and gas operations. Advocates in Black Women for Wellness, SCOPE, Rising Communities, and other community-based organizations are leading a canvassing effort around the IOF to inform residents of these updates & allow for active engagement.
If you’d like to get involved, join us at one of our upcoming Community Meetings to shut down the Inglewood Oil Field:

|
The HarmScientific studies – and accounts from local residents – tell us that toxic chemicals regularly used on oil drilling sites endanger the health and safety of residents who live nearby.
|
The SolutionCommunities are demanding that the County of Los Angeles finalize the ordinance to phase out oil drilling and begin implementation immediately to protect the health of communities.
